Pond life - getting down to the basics

The pond has to be cleaned before anything else is placed in it - so the team are scraping up muddy deposits that therain has washed in and hosing down the walls to make sure there is no cement left. They then fit a layer of thick felt over the liner to prevent sand and gravel tearing it. The silt, sand, gravel, pebbles and stones are being delivered by the truck load and this will take all day - the different sizes have to be kept separate. The well has been connected up to the automatic controls and the filling has already started because it will take a number of days and we don't want to put too much pressure on the aquifer.
