A reader of this blog tells me that WD40 is an effective - if unconventional - killer of processional caterpillars. Thanks for this useful tip.
I am also informed that the local Forest Rangers will (for a fee) come and shoot down the catapillar nests. Any excuse to dress up in combat gear!

Don't think the Forestali charge, they generally work on donations, or at least thats the way it is over here in Tuscia.
I've also heard that they will also provide free trees (pini, cipressi, and other natives and near natives) as part of some obscure green legislation. Know someone who did it for his parish.
