Pond life in the making

The final permesso has arrived and the digger turned up to start work on the new pond. This is a mega project - I have never done anything like it before. A piece of ground that somehow never found a role in life - too near the woods for vines; facing north so not good for olives - is now going to be a pond about 16m diameter. But not just any old pond: this is going to be along the lines of an Austrian 'bio-lago' where plants are carefully chosen keep the water clean just by the action of their roots and leaves. Magic. A Med Garden Society member has one in the Algarve so it ought to work here. Well let's see. Whatever happens, it will be nice to have a water-feature in this parched landscape.
