Wisteria woes

I have never been able to pursuade Wisteria to flower. I have tried to prune it 'properly' and then again I have tried just leaving it to its own devices. Not a bud, nothing. Hence no photo of wisteria in this Post. I have a personal theory that Wisteria grows best on garages - there is an old car repair shop near here that is completely enveloped in purple flowers at the moment, and the same goes for all the other petrol stations and body shops in the district. Thinking that I might be able to trick a Wisteria into flowering for me I have planted one against my garage. But nothing. Perhaps because the garage in question is to ricketty to risk putting the car in so its 'garage-ness' falls short of the mark?
